ICY-Net

Devices fitted with an ICY-Net module can be controlled and read devices wireless.

The ICY-Net is a wireless network which transfers small data packages through different nodes, or transceivers, until they reach their final destination. As opposed to other comparable networks, the route in the ICY-Net and the maximum number of nodes is not predetermined. The data itself selects the most efficient route to its destination. When a node is not available, e.g. in case of interference, the data will follow another route. The ICY-Net is very well suited for mobile environments, where the data will have to select alternative routes as a result of the differences in distances and locations.

This flexibility reduces the susceptibility to interference. Even when the communication is disturbed in a certain location, another route will be selected.

The nodes in the ICY-Net are wireless and very easy to install. The nodes can be installed in random order; the addresses are allocated in the software. When replacing a node, the data will automatically start using the new node. The network can be extended almost indefinitely, as long as the distance between the nodes and the maximum number of nodes is not exceeded.

Flexible communication

The ICY-Net was developed for use as a network for radio-telemetric applications, and is very suitable to control or read appliances at different locations from one central location. It is flexible and transparent and is able to communicate with the most diverse types of appliances.

Multi-node and multi-usable

A central controller is not necessary; every node can communicate directly with any other random node. It is even possible to let several communication sessions take place in the network at the same time.

Data transfer

The data packages transferred also contain address information of the sender and addressee, as well as data and error monitoring information. As long as the final destination has not yet been reached, the data package is sent on. If a node on the way is faulty, this very rarely if ever has any consequences for the communication with the other nodes on the network. The sent data package will reach its final destination via multiple routes, which enables filtering and data validation.

Clever addresses

The ICY-Net uses a very clever addressing algorithm which prevents endless transfer of the same data package.

Size of data packages

The size of the data packages is dynamic and can, depending on the addressee’s options, consists of a data field between 1 and 32 bytes. Multiple data packages can be used for larger data files.

Applications

ICY has ready turn-key solutions for several application areas. These solutions are fully operational directly after installation. We are also in the process of increasing our range, based on the input and wishes of our business relations. E.g. we are currently developing application specific management software for different operating systems.
Whether the ICY-Net is suitable for a specific application strongly depends on the technical specifications required. Below is a list with standard properties of ICY-Net, which can of course be adjusted to the specific application area.
